Rex Libris: I, Librarian

Rex Libris: I, Librarian by James Turner (2007)

"It has long been supposed that the librarian is a quiet and docile member of society whose function is to do little more than reshelve books. Librarians are often depicted as old maids, as if the library were a repository for unmarried women. This, of course, is exactly what they want you to think."
From the inside look at The Ordo Bibliotheca, or the International Order of Librarians

Rex Libris is a librarian, but he’s not just any librarian. He’s a 2,000 year old protector of knowledge and advocate for literacy. Just don’t keep books out past their due date because he will hunt you down, even if you are the evil Space Warlord Vaglox and you’ve taken the Principia Mathematica back to your home planet Benzine V.

Under the direction of Thoth, director of the Middleton Public Library, Rex and fellow librarians Circe (yes, that Circe) and Hypatia (no, not that Hypatia) shush Vandal hordes, fight off Samurai demons, and guide hapless patrons through the Labyrinth of Literature.

Perhaps I’m not meant to read this as career advice, but with graduation looming, I’ve got to come up with some sort of plan, and I could see getting an MLIS if I could find a job alongside Rex and Hypatia. Also, maybe for our next staff in-service, if I’m still at the Library! this book would serve as the excellent centerpiece for a panel on Librarians in Popular Culture.

I...am a librarian!

Yes, indeed, Casanova was a librarian.
